Almond Old Fashioned 200ml 32% ABV

£19.00

Wait, what? An Old Fashioned with Almond?

Another variation I came up with courtesy of a mistake during our local barbecue wars in 2017. Barbecue wars was a heady Summer where around 6 friends in the area decided to create the challenge of deciding who gave the best barbecue. A draw took place to decide the order of events, with votes being cast at the end of each barbecue by all 12 people. The top two went through to the barbecue wars broil-off final. (To be fair to my friends, I was the only one using a Kamado Joe and the only true mixologist in the group, it was always only going to have one winner. Mind you, my ten hour, long and slow smoked ribs did make Gary cry with joy)

Anyway, in that final, the Almond Old Fashioned came into being, completely by mistake.

I’d made my cocktail of the day for the barbecue my Classic Old Fashioned, with all the usual trimmings.

One of the wives had wanted an Amaretto, and I managed to serve find a bottle. Getting distracted with the making, I’d left a measure in the measuring cup and thought it was bourbon, adding it to an old Fashioned I was making for myself.

I realised my error when I smelt it and nearly started again, when I thought, why not give it a go? Remember the Salted Caramel Negroni?

Well, the rest is history. It was terrific, I quickly made five more for the gang, served them up and I’m not saying the Almond Old Fashioned won my me the inaugural King Of The Barbecue Wars title, but I’ll set my watch and warrant that it helped.

A mix of Fat Adam's 9-year Old Chapter whisky aged in Jack Daniels barrels, with Disaronno Amaretto, making an Old Fashioned with a difference.

Don’t be scared, try it. It’s really lovely! One of the most popular cocktails we offer.

Serve with a slice of orange peel, or an amaretti biscuit and have some salted almonds nearby. Particularly nice with a Fat Adam’s Salted Caramel ice cream….

It's the key ingredient in the Fat Adam's Ice Cream Cocktail
